I have been painting portraits for thirteen years. In college, my work was very abstract. I never would have imagined I'd take a turn towards realism or portraiture for that matter. I have at times tried to return to my old process of approaching a painting with no real intentions; allowing the painting to just feed off of itself and lead me the way. Portraiture seemed to be getting redundant. That was a mistake in my thinking however.
No two human beings are a thing alike therefor there could be no such thing as redundancy in painting people. I am simply fascinated by individuals; rich, poor, old, young, educated, uneducated, wordly and rural people, people of strong moral fabric, thieves.....
Unfortunately, I haven't had much luck selling my portraits to people that don't personally know the subject. However, I have done several commissions for people, mostly of people's children which I very much enjoy.
